About

Alanna Huck-Scarry (b. 1996) is a visual artist who seeks to explore the natural world by drawing attention to the beauty of the sometimes-forgotten and often dismissed details of her environment. Her work is directly inspired by her home in the American Midwest, particularly northern Michigan and Chicago, IL.
Her work is both a material investigation – whether it be with natural dyes, handmade paper, found objects, or knit forms – and a personal endeavor to understand the ephemeral world around her. One such investigation includes her work experimenting with natural dye; the colors bleed and shift, and as time passes, her pieces depict the world around her: unpredictable and ever-changing. Most recently, Huck-Scarry has been confronting anxieties surrounding death and lack of control through an exploration of material longevity and fragility.
Huck-Scarry is a recent graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she earned her MFA in Fiber and Materials Studies. When not exhibiting in shows across the Midwest in places like Illinois (SAIC Galleries, Chicago, IL (2025); Oak Park Art League, Oak Park, IL (2022)), Michigan (Good Hart Artist Residency, Good Hart, MI (2025 and 2024); Krasl Art Center, St. Joseph, MI (2019)), and Missouri (Art Saint Louis, Saint Louis, MO (2019)), she enjoys teaching classes to Chicago-area art students.
